Companionship

At Nannies 4 Grannies, we know that no two people are the same. That's why we take the time to understand you or your loved one, carefully matching you with a local Nanny whose personality, interests and approach are a good fit. Our aim is simple: to create genuine companionship, meaningful connections and happy memories.

Companionship looks different for everyone. It might be a cup of tea and a chat, sharing stories and laughter, enjoying a favourite hobby, visiting a much-loved place, attending a local club, or simply having someone by your side while doing the things you enjoy most. Whatever brings comfort, happiness and purpose, we'll tailor our support around you.

We encourage outings where possible, helping people stay active, confident and connected to their local community. For those who prefer to remain at home, we can enjoy a range of activities and gentle exercise together, supporting both physical wellbeing and emotional health.

Above all, our companionship visits are about helping people feel valued, connected and less alone. We believe that having regular social interaction and something to look forward to can make a real difference to overall wellbeing and quality of life.

We are proud to promote local Upcoming Activities & Events, as well as organising some of our own, and will invite you and your loved ones to join in whenever possible. We have also included a list of Regular Activities & Clubs, helping people discover new opportunities, make connections and continue enjoying life within their community.

Our Nannies are kind, compassionate and genuinely passionate about what they do. Whether it's providing a listening ear, sharing a hobby or accompanying someone on a day out, they'll be there to offer friendship, support and reassurance every step of the way.

At Nannies 4 Grannies, we understand that a dementia diagnosis can bring uncertainty for both the individual and their family. We believe that with the right support, people can continue to live fulfilling, meaningful lives while remaining in the comfort and familiarity of their own home.

All of our Nannies are trained in Dementia Awareness and understand the importance of patience, consistency and person-centred support. We take time to learn about each client's life story, routines, interests and preferences, enabling us to provide support that feels familiar, reassuring and tailored to the individual.

Wherever possible, we will match clients with a regular Nanny, helping to build trust and maintain a familiar routine. Our support can include gentle encouragement with daily activities, companionship, meal preparation, trips into the community, memory-stimulating activities and providing reassurance during periods of confusion or anxiety.

While we are unable to provide personal or medical care, we understand that needs can change as dementia progresses. If the time comes when additional support is needed, we have a trusted relationship with a local care company whose values closely align with our own. By working together, we can help ensure that clients receive the personal care they require while continuing to enjoy the companionship, familiarity and support of their regular Nanny. This continuity can be incredibly important, allowing trusted relationships to continue and providing reassurance for both clients and their families during times of change.

We recognise that dementia affects the whole family, not just the individual. Our Nannies work alongside families, providing valuable support and peace of mind, knowing that their loved one is spending time with someone who genuinely understands their needs and is committed to helping them maintain their independence, confidence and sense of identity for as long as possible.

Further Information and Support

If you or a loved one has recently received a dementia diagnosis, the following organisations provide trusted information, guidance and support:

Respite and Post-Hospital support

Respite Care

Caring for someone you love can be incredibly rewarding, but we also understand how important it is for family carers to have time for themselves. Whether you need a few hours to attend an appointment, meet friends, go to work, enjoy a well-earned break or simply catch up on everyday life, our Nannies can provide trusted support while you are away.

We take the time to understand your loved one's usual routine, interests and individual needs, ensuring our visits feel familiar, comfortable and reassuring. Support may include companionship, preparing meals, helping with light household tasks, enjoying activities together, going for a walk or coffee, or simply spending time chatting at home. While we do not provide personal or medical care, our focus is on supporting wellbeing, independence and quality of life through meaningful companionship and practical assistance.

Respite support can be arranged on a regular basis or as and when you need it. Our aim is to give family carers the confidence to take time for themselves, knowing their loved one is safe, supported and enjoying the company of a compassionate Nanny who genuinely cares about their wellbeing. Should care needs change over time, we can also work alongside our trusted local care partner to help ensure the right support is in place while maintaining the valued relationship between the client and their Nanny.

Post-Hospital Support

Returning home after a stay in hospital can sometimes feel daunting, particularly when everyday tasks are a little more challenging than usual. Our Nannies provide practical support, companionship and reassurance to help you or your loved one settle back into the comfort of home and regain confidence at your own pace.

Every recovery journey is different, which is why we tailor our support around your individual needs and circumstances. This may include preparing meals, shopping, light housekeeping, collecting prescriptions, assisting with laundry, accompanying clients to follow-up appointments, or simply being there as a friendly and reassuring presence during the first days and weeks at home. While our Nannies are unable to provide personal or medical care, they can offer valuable non-medical support that helps make day-to-day life easier during recovery.

As confidence grows, we can encourage gentle outings and participation in everyday activities, helping to rebuild independence while ensuring support is always available when needed. Our Nannies will do as much or as little as required, providing a helping hand without taking away a person's sense of choice, control and independence.

Post-hospital support can be arranged for a short period during recovery or continue for longer if ongoing assistance would make daily life easier. Whatever the level of support required, our focus is on helping clients feel safe, comfortable and confident in their own home. If personal care becomes necessary during recovery, we have a trusted relationship with a local care company whose values align with our own, allowing clients to receive the additional care they need while continuing to benefit from the familiar companionship and support of their Nannie.

Home help

We will create a support plan that fits your needs. You may want one or two of the below services, or all of them... this is your choice. Our nannies will do as much or as little as you want.

We will always try and assist in ad-hoc tasks when required, too, so please call us to discuss your specific requirements.

 Meal Preparation and Planning:

We can help plan your weekly meals to suit your dietary needs, taking careful consideration of any food intolerances or allergies you may have. We can help create a shopping list to make sure you have the right ingredients available, and we can prepare the items ready for cooking or make the whole meal for you.

For those who enjoy cooking, we can also cook alongside you, offering as much or as little support as needed. This can be a wonderful way to maintain confidence in the kitchen, encourage independence and continue enjoying a familiar and rewarding activity.

If your preferred choice is a ready meal, that's no problem. We can simply heat and plate this for you to enjoy.

Batch cooking and freezing meals is a great way to ensure you always have a nutritious home-cooked meal ready to enjoy on busier days or when you do not feel like cooking. If this is something you would like to include, please just let us know.

Accompanying to Activities & Appointments

Sometimes it's simply nice to have someone by your side. Whether you need support getting to an appointment, would like to attend a social activity, or just feel more confident with a friendly companion, our Nannies are here to help.

We can accompany you to medical appointments, hairdressers, cafés, clubs, community groups and social events, helping you get there safely, comfortably and on time. Where appropriate, our Nannies can provide transport in their own vehicles, all of which are fully insured for accompanying clients as part of our service. We understand that appointments are not always planned in advance, so we will always do our best to accommodate requests, even at short notice.

If you would like us to, we can stay with you throughout your appointment, providing reassurance and companionship, making notes to help you remember important information, and supporting you to get the most from your visit. We will then accompany you home and ensure you are comfortably settled before we leave.

We are also delighted to accompany clients to new or familiar activities, whether that's a coffee morning, exercise class, hobby group, lunch with friends or a local community event. Your Nanny will remain with you throughout, offering support, encouragement and companionship, helping you feel confident and relaxed while enjoying the activity.

Our aim is to help you stay connected, maintain your independence and continue enjoying the people, places and activities that matter most to you.

Shopping

Shopping can become more difficult due to mobility, health concerns or a loss of confidence, but that doesn't mean you should lose your independence. Our Nannies can provide as much or as little support as needed, helping to make shopping a stress-free and enjoyable experience.

Whether you would like company on a shopping trip, help carrying bags and putting items away, or prefer us to shop on your behalf, we're here to help. We can accompany you to your favourite supermarket, local shops or garden centre, and can drive you to and from your chosen destination if required.

A typical visit might include planning a shopping list together, going shopping, stopping for a cup of tea while out, returning home to unpack purchases, and helping to organise items where you would like them. We can also support online shopping, helping you build confidence so you can order independently in the future.

Please note that our service focuses on everyday shopping and practical support. We do not undertake heavy lifting and large furniture deliveries.

Our aim is to help you maintain your independence while ensuring you have everything you need to live comfortably at home.

Easy steps to arranging home support

Long term or Occasional support?

Long term support is for people who want to have the reassurance that someone will be there to support on a regular, ongoing basis.

Occasional support is for people who are looking for temporary support. This could be when you or a loved one is convalescing after a hospital stay, when a main carer needs to have some respite or when family are going away on holiday and would like a check-in service for a loved one. We can also provide companionship for elderly relatives at events such as weddings, including transport to and from the event.
